Think deeply,
live virtuously
The Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences will challenge you to think through puzzling ethical questions, develop an understanding of the relationship between theology and politics and hosts of other issues that stand at the intersection of faith and culture. You will scrutinize deeply held beliefs and cultivate a love for truth and a mature Christian faith. You will study forces such as culture, religion, politics, gender, class, and race to help you achieve a deep understanding of your relationship with local, national, and global communities. You will learn how to become a virtuous citizen and a responsible shaper of Church and culture, enabling you to develop and sustain a Christian view of the world.
Step into your future
Regardless of whether you study history, education, philosophy, political science, or sociology, the courses you take will help you develop abilities that are important marks of a well-developed mind: the capacity to communicate effectively in speech and writing, employ critical reasoning skills, and analyze complex problems. These abilities — cultivated by our traditional liberal arts programs — will serve you well for whatever field or vocation you wish to enter.
