2022 Young Alumna of the Year:
Rachel Jenkins ‘16
Rachel Jenkins ‘16 currently serves the American Hospital Association as a Senior Associate Director on the Federal Relations team. In this role, Rachel advocates before Congress on behalf of our nation’s hospitals and health systems.
Prior to joining the AHA in the summer of 2022, Rachel served as the Legislative Director for Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio District 13, managing the Congressman's legislative agenda and leading an active legislation team. She also advised the congressman on issues related to federal appropriations, agriculture, education, health, labor, and trade. Beginning in this office as an intern, she worked her way up serving in junior legislative roles before taking the position as legislative director.
While Rachel studied Philosophy and Political Science with a minor in History, she was also a member of the Honors program, served as the freshman and sophomore class president, started the Philosophy Club, Sophia, her junior year, and worked as a peer tutor and in the Everett Cattell Library for her entire Malone career. After graduating from Malone, Rachel went on to earn her master’s degree in Legislative Affairs from the George Washington University in May of 2020.
Rachel has remained active in the Malone community, serving as a Malone Alumni Mentor for the 2021-2022 Pendle Hill Mentorship Program, and as she works in our Nation’s capital she has attended Washington Community Fellowship Church and is now transitioning to a new church home.
2022 Alumni of the Year:
Deron Boring ‘01, J. D.
Deron Boring ‘01, J. D. currently operates as Deron M. Boring, Attorney at Law, LLC serving the northeast Ohio community, and has been doing so since 2004. His practice is limited to estate planning, probate, mental health/guardianship, real estate, firearms law, and small business/non-profit planning.
After receiving his BA in Law and Society with a minor in Political Science from Malone, Deron received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron McDowell School of Law in 2004, and is admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. In addition to his individual practice, Deron has previously served as the chair of the Portage County Bar Association Probate Committee and Admissions Committee, and as Bar Council for the Portage County Bar Admissions Committee. He has also served on the Board of Trustees for the Portage/Geauga County Juvenile Detention Center and Portage County Law Library Association, and as co-chair and presenter at the Elder Law Issues Symposium sponsored by the Portage County Bar Association and Northeast Ohio Medical University.
For more than a decade, Deron served as the coordinator of the Ohio Junior Leadership Training Academy for the Ohio District Council (Royal Rangers) of the Assemblies of God, a ministry focused on mentorship and discipleship of young men into Christian leaders in their churches, families, homes, and communities. He also served as a certified instructor of ministry and leadership for the Royal Rangers and as a leadership and ministry instructor for national leadership training camps.
While at Malone, Deron served as President of the Student Body during his senior year, Communications Director of Student Senate for two years, and was vice-president of his freshman class.
Deron has also remained active in the Malone Community since his graduation, both as community member and adjunct professor.
He was involved in Malone Young Alumni Community from 2002-2011, serving as president from 06-07. He is past-chair and current member of the Malone Estate Planning Advisory Board for many years, and served on the Malone Alumni Executive Board from 2006-2010, returning to the board in 2012/ to today, and was President of the Alumni board from 2018-2020. He was a member of the Higher Learning Commission Reaccreditation Criterion Committee in 2020-2021, and has been a Senior Adjunct Faculty Member since 2010. Deron has taught in the Department of Business and Technologies, teaching graduate courses in Business Law & Human Resource Management and undergraduate courses in Business Law, as well as the Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences, teaching courses in American Government and American Constitutional Law. Deron also serves as an instructor at LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas, teaching courses in American Government.
Deron is married to Constance Brannon Boring, who serves as the Manager of University Marketing for Malone. They reside in Suffield and attend Parkside Church in Green.
