Malone launches Cybersecurity major

Malone University officials announced the addition of cybersecurity as an undergraduate major. A cutting-edge program equipped with opportunities for hands-on experiences on campus and internships around Stark County and beyond, cybersecurity at Malone will prepare graduates for cybersecurity and cyber defense jobs in every industry.

The coursework for cybersecurity was created to exceed expectations set by the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) so that future cyber leaders will learn the skills they need to secure information technology (IT) systems, develop secure software, and manage information systems. Malone Cybersecurity students will also develop an ethical code of conduct that reflects the mission and values of Christian faith.

“We are thrilled to begin offering this program at Malone,” said James Glasgow, Ph.D., professor of computer science. “Cybersecurity is an important area of study in a new and growing field. This new major will provide many opportunities for our students as well as employers who are looking for expertise in computer security.” 

Cybersecurity at Malone will offer students a curriculum set in the context of liberal arts education so that graduates are equipped to enter professional settings like hospitals, corporations, and government agencies as experts in the field who can communicate with ease in any setting. The program will also equip students to sit for the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification upon graduation, which will position them for direct entry into the workforce.

High school students wanting to know more about the field can attend Malone’s inaugural Cybersecurity camp scheduled for June 24-27.
