Once the 2020 presidential election is over, the American public and the entire world will begin to analyze its outcome and try to make sense of the results.

Political science provides multiple perspectives for analyzing important events like the 2020 election, and David Beer, associate professor of political science, will examine several common models that political scientists have used to make sense of similar elections in his pop-up course “The 2020 Presidential Election: Analysis and Review.” This brief course will be open to the greater community online or in-person on November 10, 11, and 12.

The course content will provide a politically-neutral understanding of contemporary American politics. It will help students better understand the immediate history of the 2020 election, how political scientists attempt to predict elections, and how political scientists examine trends.

“Our goal is to meet the current informational needs of our community,” said Malone Provost Greg Miller. “We hope that this will be a shared experience that helps to build a healthier and more thoughtful political dialogue in our families, workplaces, and communities.”
