Passing the test

Emily Indorf ’10, ‘14 did not have to look for a job after graduating with her master of arts in education, in clinical counseling (now counseling and human development). There was already one waiting for her.

“I was hired through my internship site immediately following graduation,” said Indorf, a licensed professional counselor at Gentle Shepherd Counseling Center in North Canton.

“Malone successfully prepared me to graduate with a Master’s level degree, become licensed, and practice as a beginning counselor.”

When she passed her state licensure exam with flying colors, Indorf was thrilled.

“When I found out I passed my exam," she said, "the reality set in that I had finally obtained my goal of becoming a licensed professional counselor.”

Indorf felt she had excellent preparation for the counseling program since her bachelor’s degree was in psychology.

“I had already experienced the excellence Malone had to offer through its Christian-based learning, professors, and higher standards of education,” said Indorf. “But what really drew me to the MAEd: Counseling program was its multicultural focus, CACREP accreditation, high pass rate for the state licensure exam, and the structure of evening classes.”

After earning both a bachelor’s and a master’s from Malone, Indorf is proud to encourage others to follow her lead.

“I’ve never regretted my decision to come to Malone for both degrees,” said Indorf. “The Christian atmosphere, the community, the education, and the genuine professors, staff, and students really made my experience well worth it.”
