World-renowned concert pianist to hold masterclass at Malone

Praised for his “superb playing” and “poised, alert musicianship” by The Boston Globe, American pianist Spencer Myer is one of the most respected and exclusive artists on today’s concert stage. His orchestral, recital, and chamber music performances have been heard throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, Asia, and Africa. He has been a soloist with, among many others, the Cleveland Orchestra, Boise, Dayton, and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestras, Mexico’s Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, South Africa’s Cape Town and Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestras, and Beijing’s China National Symphony Orchestra.

Myer’s recital appearances have been presented in New York City’s Weill Recital Hall, 92nd Street Y and Steinway Hall, Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, and London’s Wigmore Hall. Many of his performances have been broadcast on WQXR (New York City), WHYY (Philadelphia), WCLV (Cleveland), and WFMT (Chicago).

Myer is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory, the Julliard School, and Stony Brook University. His debut CD, under the harmonia mundi USA label, was released in the fall of 2007 to critical acclaim by Fanfare and Gramophone magazines. His most recent recordings – “William Bolcom: Piano Rags” and the Brahms Cello Sonatas with Brian Thornton – were both released in 2017 on the Steinway & Sons label.

He will be at Malone on Saturday, November 17, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Stewart Room of the Randall Campus Center. His masterclass is free and open to the public.
