Admissions Counselor
About the position
Recruit and assist prospective students through the process of admissions. Manage an assigned territory. Interview and evaluate Malone University admissions candidates. Answer questions and advise prospective students of procedures and requirements for admission. Participate in evening and weekends events as necessary. Must be able to travel in order to represent and promote the educational opportunities provided by Malone University to prospective students by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities
- Meet enrollment goals by recruiting a diverse student group from assigned territory.
- Manage assigned prospective student pool for the purpose of increasing prospects and focusing on first-time freshmen students.
- Schedule and represent the university at college fairs, youth conventions, church visits, and high school visits.
- Work with prospective students within the database to assess and meet the needs of individuals by developing and maintaining relationships with prospective students through correspondence utilizing phone, e-mail, texting, social media, cards, letters, and personal contacts.
- Contact assigned student applicants at least once a month moving them toward enrolling.
- Assist with and participate in all Admissions campus events.
- Contact hot leads/inquiries at least once a month.
- Assist in the entry and updating of prospective student data in the database/CRM system.
- Interact and work effectively with diverse constituencies, including faculty, academic deans and senior administrators, admissions staff members, students, parents, guidance counselors, youth pastors, pastors and alumni for the purpose of enhancing recruitment processes.
- Be flexible in work hours—weekends and evenings. More hours will be required at key times during the recruitment year to complete the job.
- Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA rules and regulations, and with conference rules and regulations regarding the recruitment of athletes.
- Plans and facilitates activities to enhance and expand the University’s enrollment objectives – growth, diversity and quality of new students.
- Serves as a resource to staff members and faculty on recruiting new students in specific areas of strengths – for example athletics, academic majors, specific activities/clubs or diversity.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must exhibit a personal understanding of, and operate in concert with the Mission statement and Foundational Principles of the University. A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant, applicable field is required. Previous experience at an institution of higher education in the admissions area is preferred.
A proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is essential. Proven effective relational skills are also required. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of people, a commitment to diversity and a demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and complete projects independently is essential. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) is required, a readiness to navigate the University proprietary database (Jenzabar) and CRM (JRM) is essential.
Proven time management skills, the ability to prioritize and record keeping abilities are essential. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of sensitive materials is essential. Current valid driver’s license and availability for frequent travel is required. Hours per week are anticipated to vary based on the needs and fluctuations of the recruiting and events cycle. Evening, weekend and overnight commitments will be necessary at times.
