Director of Library Services
About the position
Reporting to the Provost, the Director of Library Services administers all aspects of the university’s library including the supervision of library professional and support staff and the integration of library services and resources into the university’s educational mission. Chief duties include operational and fiscal oversight of all library functions; managing collection development; leading the library staff in strategic and annual planning; and classroom instruction for 1 class each semester. This position includes the opportunity to serve as archivist for the Malone University and Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region historical collections. The director represents and advocates for the library through the Ohio Private Academic Libraries and OhioLINK consortia, as well as various state and national library associations.
Essential Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities
- Hire, supervise, mentor, and motivate library staff and advocate for their continued development.
- Foster teamwork, cooperation, and communication among library staff members and departments.
- Build and maintain a useful collection of resources, both physical and online.
- Prepare, allocate, and administer the library budget.
- Select, subscribe to, and maintain licenses for online databases and full-text electronic resources.
- Actively develop relationships with university faculty, staff, administration, and students to improve library/educational cooperation and to promote library resources, services, and staff throughout the campus community.
- Select, organize, arrange, preserve, and provide access to Malone and EFC-ER archives collections.
- Oversee archives interns and student workers, provide archives presentations, assist with research, and lead the archives committee.
- Lead library staff in developing and implementing library goals, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain usage statistics to determine subscription renewals and to complete necessary reports.
- Work with the library staff to provide information literacy instruction.
- Teach one course each fall and spring semester.
- Participate in the work and decision-making processes of the OPAL and OhioLINK consortia.
- Maintain on-going professional development, and stay abreast of current trends and innovations in academic libraries.
- Participate in campus committees as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualifications:
- Commitment to the mission of Malone University and to the integration of faith, service, and daily work.
- A Master's Degree in Library Science
- A second advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s level)
- Administrative ability: at least 5 years of library experience in an academic library, with progressive leadership experience.
- Experience in developing and controlling departmental budgets
- Ability to relate well to students, faculty, and library colleagues.
- Demonstrated ability in both written and oral communication.
- Familiarity with emerging library technologies, trends, and practices.
- Commitment to assessment and to data-driven decision-making.
- Familiarity with licensing issues and with copyright law, especially as applied to educational settings

Status, Rank, and Appointment:
- This position carries the status of Administrator and non-tenured faculty status. Salary is commensurate with education and experience
- The appointment will be full-time 12-month basis.
