Communication Arts Concentrations

Develop your knowledge, application skills, effectiveness, and appropriateness in interpersonal, written, and media communication with a strong core of courses shared by all Communication Arts majors.

You'll be prepared with general communication abilities—and the specialized study of your concentration.

The Communication Arts major offers three concentrations. Regardless of your concentration, your training features a unique blending of all the areas listed below:

Communication Studies

Communication Studies helps you develop an understanding of core communication concepts and apply them in a wide variety of many different careers, relationships, and settings. This course of study is recommended for those interested in preparing for graduate studies in communication.

Public Relations

Public Relations in corporate or non-profit settings involves planning, writing and speaking with an overall view to promoting the best interests of that organization.  The public relations concentration helps you prepare for positions in fundraising, promotion, event planning, advertising, marketing, community affairs, and many more diverse fields.

Film, Media, and Theatre

Combining the best of three concentrations, studying Film includes production classes and film appreciation and criticism classes in order to develop strong aesthetic sensibilities, good storytelling skills, and a healthy comfortability with production work. Consider studying or working in L.A., or apply these skills to any number of jobs.

Media studies allow for  careers in production, programming, and presentation using media tools and channels, such as websites, social media, and more.

Theatre courses rely on a workshop model to develop practical skills in acting, directing, set design, playwriting, and other aspects of performance. You'll have a well-rounded look at all aspects of theatre—performance, production, and technical.
